Selling everything before you move: a simple timeline
Updated September 28, 2026
The biggest mistake people make is starting too late, then giving everything away the day before the truck arrives. Here's a timeline that leaves room to breathe.
4 weeks out: decide what's going
- Walk each room and sort into take, sell, donate and toss. Be honest about what's worth the moving cost. Heavy, cheap furniture often isn't.
- Measure your new place. If the couch won't fit, it goes on the sell list now, not the week you move.
- Take photos as you go: daylight, a couple of angles, and a close-up of any damage.
3 weeks out: open your sale
- Upload your photos and let the AI group, name and price everything, then tweak what it got wrong.
- Set bidding to close about a week before moving day, so pickups happen while you still have furniture to sit on.
- Share the link with friends, family, neighbors and coworkers.
2 weeks out: keep it moving
- Add the things you find while packing, and let bidders know there's something new.
- Lower the starting price on anything that hasn't had a bid.
- Start using up pantry food and cleaning supplies. They're awkward to sell and to move.
1 week out: close and hand off
- When bidding closes, winners get an email with what they won and how to reach you, and you get a summary of who's taking what.
- Schedule pickups in batches: one evening, one weekend morning.
- Ask winners with big items to bring a helper and a vehicle that fits.
Moving week: clear the rest
- Offer anything left over for free to your group, then book a donation pickup for the rest.
- Keep what you still need (a chair, a lamp, a pan) until the very end, and give it to a friend on moving day.
Ready when you are
It’s free, it takes a couple of minutes, and your friends don’t need an account.
